RANGPUR, – Health experts at an advocacy meeting have stressed on strengthening the quality of sexually transmitted disease (STD) management services integrating both public and private sectors in their respective fields.
Light House with support of the United Nations Population Fund organized the event for 25 health officials of the government and private sectors at the conference room of the Civil Surgeon in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting was organized with the aim of incorporating physicians in both public and private sectors to work together for ensuring and strengthening quality of STD services in their respective fields for building a healthier nation.
Principal of Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu attended the meeting as the chief guest with Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed in the chair.
Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of RpMC Dr. Kamrun Nahar Jui, Superintendent of Gaibandha Sadar Hospital Dr. Nabiur Rahman, Superintendent of Kurigram Sadar Hospital Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam and Associate Professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy also spoke.
Associate Professor Dr. Chandan Kumar Roy presented the keynote address at the meeting moderated by Project Manager of Light House for Rangpur Abdur Rahim Suman.
Light House Deputy Chief Executive Officer KSM Tariq in his introductory speech discussed the aims and objectives of the meeting and called upon all the participants to give valuable feedback in further strengthening the STD services.
Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of the Department of Family Planning for Rangpur Dr. Sheikh Md. Saidul Islam, Chief Health Officer of Rangpur City Corporation Dr. Kamruzzaman Ibne Taj participated in the discussion.
The speakers said that in order to build a healthier nation to move the country forward, participation of all citizens is required in all fields to ensure health services of all citizens.
They mentioned that most of the people do not want to talk about STD issues and want to keep sexual and reproductive health related issues as secret, and so why, physicians in both public and private sectors should need to take positive steps.
The chief guest said the government and private sectors should work together and mentioned that the discussion on the sexually transmitted disease management services issues at the meeting would have a positive impact in the future.
