Choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag, who runs two dance academies, was arrested upon information gleaned from suspects arrested earlier over sex trafficking to Dubai Facebook/Ivan Shahriar Sohag.

He was arrested on Friday based on information gleaned from suspects in custody. A Dhaka court has sent National Film Award-winning choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag on charges of trafficking girls to Dubai.

Ivan, who was arrested from the capital’s Niketon on Friday, was produced in court on Saturday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
CID Sub-Inspector Md Kamruzzaman moved a petition to keep the suspect in prison for the sake of the investigations, which the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara granted. Lawyer Khan Mahmudul Hasan applied for bail on behalf of Ivan but the hearing could not be held as copies of the case documents were not available at the time.

Ivan’s lawyer filed a bail plea, which the court is expected to hear on Sunday.

Ivan won the National Film Award in 2017 for his choreography for the film ‘Dhyatteriki’. He also leads a dance troupe called ‘Sohag Dance Group’ and is the chairman of an advertising agency ‘Exposure BD’.
