The first ever international-standard multiplex chain in Bangladesh iconic Star Cineplex will continue screening movies at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex as the mall authorities have stepped back from their previous decision to evict the multiplex from Level 8, closing its doors for moviegoers.

Confirming the matter to media on Wednesday night, Star Cineplex Chairman Mahboob Rahman Ruhel said, “Bashundhara City authorities called me yesterday and told us to continue screening cinemas here.”

Quoting the mall authorities, he also said that the extension of the contract has been possible as Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan showed interest in the matter. Sources said that the official contract signing regarding the contract extension will take place on Thursday. Earlier on September 1, the authorities at Bashundhara city decided not to extend their contract with 16-year-old Star Cineplex and asked them to shut the vicinity down and vacate the floor by October 1, the birthplace from where it has been entertained cinema lovers of Dhaka since 2004. Sources said, the mall authorities took the decision as Star Cineplex could not pay rent of past few months. Later, thousands of people who were regulars in the place, through social media platforms, demanded Bashundhara City authorities to reconsider.
