Shahidul sued under ICT act for spreading anti-govt propaganda

DHAKA – Police today filed a case against the detained photographer and also managing director of Drik Gallery Shahidul Alam under Information Communication Technology (ICT) Act for spreading anti-government propaganda to instigate the ongoing protest centering deaths of two students in road accident.

Shahidul, who was arrested from his Dhanmodi residence in the capital on Sunday night, was sent to the court today seeking 10 days of remand in connection with the case.

“Inspector Md Mehdi Hasan of Detective Branch (DB-north) of police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed the case with Ramna Police Station,” deputy commissioner (DC) of Ramna zone Maruf Hossain Sarder told BSS.

In the First Information Report (FIR), it was alleged that Shahidul used facebook and other social media to spread false and fabricated information to instigate the ongoing protest and mislead the nation.
