Successful laparoscopic kidney transplantation held at Dhaka CMH

DHAKA  – Successful kidney transplantations of two patients in laparoscopic method held at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital for the first time.

India’s Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) Kidney Transplant Surgeon Dr. Pranjal Rohon Lal Modi led the operation, said a press release from Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate.

A seven-member Indian specialists’ team, urologist of Dhaka CMH Brigadier General Md Shahidul Islam and kidney transplant specialists of Dhaka CMH and AFIP took part in the operation.

Though only the members of armed forces are getting this medical facility, there is a plan to open the facility for the civil people in future, the release added.

Kidney transplant centre started its activities at Dhaka CMH as per Prime Minister’s pledge to provide health facility to all classes of people with overall assistance of Army Chief.

Around 30,000 to 40,000 kidney patients are adding every year in Bangladesh. About 80% of these patients are dying for lack of proper treatment.

At present, kidney transplantation is held only at eight centres in the country, ISPR release added.
