6 die, 16 injured in boiler blast in south India

NEW DELHI,  – At least six persons died and 16 injured in a boiler blast at one of the thermal power stations at the NLC India Limited (NLCIL) in Neyveli district of India’s southern state Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, confirmed a company official to Xinhua over phone.

The boiler exploded at unit-5 at the thermal power station-2.

While two dead bodies have been recovered, four more bodies were located at the accident site. The identities of the dead were yet to be ascertained, added the official who preferred not to be quoted.

Among the injured 11 were said to be critical, and the death toll is feared to rise, said the company official, and added that the injured were admitted in a local hospital.

Further details of the mishap are awaited.

This is second blast in NLCIL’s plants in past two months. On May 7 a boiler blast took place at the company’s another plant in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu.
