PM mourns loss of lives in Buriganga launch capsize

DHAKA,– Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in a launch capsize in the Buriganga river and is enquiring about the rescue drive round the clock.

The launch named ‘Morning Bird’ carrying over 50 passengers sank in the Buriganga river at Dhaka’s Shyambazar this morning, fire service sources said.

“In a condolence message, the prime minister expressed profound shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in the launch capsize,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.

He said the premier is also enquiring about the rescue operation round the clock.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the victims and conveyed deep sympathy to their families.

The Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel have so far recovered 28 bodies from the river after the launch accident, the fire service sources added.
