COVID-19 cases reach 2,248 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients climbed to 2,248 with 33 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the district-wise break up of the patients stands at 765 in Rangpur, 125 in Panchagarh, 295 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 119 in Kurigram, 174 in Thakurgaon, 492 in Dinajpur and 207 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Talking to BSS today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 1,059 now with the healing of 50 more patients on Saturday in the division.

“The percentage of recovery among the total 2,248 coronavirus infected patients stands at 47.10 now in the division,” he said.

The 1,059 recovered COVID-19 patients include 388 of Rangpur, 66 of Panchagarh, 143 of Nilphamari, 41 of Lalmonirhat, 71 of Kurigram, 92 of Thakurgaon, 225 of Dinajpur and 33 of Gaibandha districts.

“A total of 23,427 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested so far, and of them, the 2,248 found coronavirus positive with the infection rate of 9.59 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Saturday, the total number of fatalities rose to 39 in the division.

“Of the deceased, 13 hailed from Rangpur, eight from Dinajpur, six each from Nilphamari and Gaibandha, three from Panchagarh, two from Thakurgaon and one from Lalmonirhat districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said, among the total 2,248 COVID-19 patients, 153 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 1,059 recovered patients and 39 deaths while 997 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“A total of 45,748 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 39,568 released and 6,180 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 213 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 265 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,60,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 97,005 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 63,818 pieces in the division.

“I call upon every citizen to stay at home, maintain physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 for the own safety and to keep others safe,” Dr. Khan added.
