Shahadat Sumon, JU correspondent: Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit have started funding to provide financial assistance among indigent students at the time of worldwide shutdown due to coronavirus pandemic.

The president of the organizations, Armanul Islam Khan, on Thursday confirmed this information adding “We felt to stand beside the families of JU students who have become economically endangered due to current countrywide shutdown.”

“Many students spend their own and their families here on tuition or part-time work.In such a national disaster, they can’t crowd at the roads to get relief supplies. Even there have been no well-coordinated and comprehensive plans by the govt. to ensure a large-scale distribution of relief supplies that these families will be provided essential goods.” he said.

“So we have taken initiative to stand beside all these families and created a fund with our public grants.” he added.

Applauding these initiative associate Professor of the University’s History department Dr. Sultana Akhter said, “The universities teachers association, various Alumni Association, current and former students should also stand beside those students and their families to stem their suffering during the coronavirus outbreak.”
