DHAKA,  – Bangladesh Women’s team conceded second straight defeat in the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup when they suffered a big 86-run loss to Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Thursday.

This was their first match against Australia in this format of the cricket and they experienced such whopping margin of defeat that was not expected indeed.

Opting to bat first, the hosts Australia racked up a gigantic 189-1 with opener Alyssa Healy striking highest 53 ball-86 in which she smashed 10 fours and three sixes. In reply Bangladesh was restricted to 103-9.

Healy and Beth Mooney took the match away from Bangladesh’s grip after combining a 151 runs for the opening stand in 17th over.

Bangladesh skipper Salma broke the partnership by dismissing Healy. But Mooeny and Ashleigh Gardner further added a 38 off just 18 balls to make sure the hosts would end up with big score.

Mooney was unbeaten on 58 ball-81 runs, sending the ball across the rope for nine times. Gardner was not out on 22 off 9, hitting three fours and one six.

In reply Bangladesh came up with ordinary performance when a strong batting show was expected. However they continued losing wickets and couldn’t scare Australia even for a while.

Fargana Haque Pinky was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 36 while Nigar Sultana made 19. Shamima Sultana and Rumana Ahmed contributed identical 13 and those four batsmen could reach double digit figure only.

Meghan Schutt was the wrecker-in-chief for Bangladesh with 3-21 while Jess Jonassen scalped 2-17.
