Shahadat Sumon, JU correspondent: Agitating teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) brought out a procession once again, demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam for graft allegation.

On Thursday (February 27) under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’, the procession started from the university’s Faculty of Social Sciences at around noon and ended with a brief rally at the new registrar building, circling the important roads of the campus.

Speakers at the rally demanded immediate removal of Professor Farzana Islam from the VC post for her alleged involvement in corruption and those involved in the corruption be punished through investigation soon.

Addressing the rally, the convener of the Socialist Student Front, JU branch, Shovon Rahman, said, “The news of corruption in the construction under mega project was exposed through media. Moreover, we have presented enough evidence to investigate the corruption, but the government has been silent without investigating it. If immediate action will not be taken, we will be pushed towards a harsh movement. ‘

Armanul Islam Khan, president of the university branch of “Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parisadh”, said, “The VC has lost the moral high ground to hold the post of VC after the brutal attack on teachers and students by Chhatra League on November 5. But no trial has been done on that attack yet. The government has declared zero tolerance against corruption. But JU VC is becoming more corrupt day by day despite the government’s zero tolerance policy against corruption.”

He said the protests would continue till their demands are met.

Earlier, The government allotted Tk1445.36 crore for the JU development project in 2018. Numerous students and teachers started protesting, demanding the removal of the VC after she allegedly gave Tk2 crore from that allotted money to Chhatra League.
