Int`l Mother Language day observed at JU

Shahadat Sumon, JU correspondent: The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) today observed the International Mother Language day paying tribute to the memory of the Language Movement martyrs with due respect.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farzana Islam paid deep homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement by placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on behalf of the university at about 12.01 am.

The VC flew black flag at the Central Shaheed Minar premises accompanied by JU Pro-VC Professor Nurul Alam, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Monjurul Karim, Registrar Rahima Kaniz, Proctor ASM Firoz-Ul-Hasan, dean of different faculties, provosts of dormitories and teachers of the university.

JU Teachers’ Association (JUTA), JU Journalists’ Association (JUJA), JU Officers’ Association, JU Women’s Club, JU Physically-challenged Development Foundation, Bangladesh Chhatra League JU unit and other political, cultural and social organizations offered their respect to the language martyrs.

Different cultural organizations brought out “Probhat Ferry” with the participation of about three hundred students of the university and different school-colleges paraded the campus and pay homage at the Central Shaheed Minar of the university on this morning. National flags flied at half-mast atop all buildings of the university.

Earlier, a cultural function was also held at Central Shaheed Minar premises on Thursday evening organized by JU Teacher-Student Center while the VC Professor Dr. Farzana Islam addressed the function as the chief guest.
