RAJSHAHI,  – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP has been spreading falsehood, being defeated in the elections to Dhaka city corporations.

“The BNP should accept the reality and refrain from all sorts of falsehood. This will be good for the party,” he said, addressing a meeting of Rajshahi district unit of Bangladesh Awami League at Shilpakala Academy auditorium as the chief guest.

Hasan Mahmud said time has come for BNP to look into why the party leaders and workers are gradually leaving and why they were not in the field on the polling day.

Terming the recently held Dhaka city election as good in the country’s history as well as the history of this subcontinent, the minister said the election was free from any incident of capturing centres, violence and forgery.

He also termed BNP’s statements made in a post-election press conference in Dhaka on Wednesday as totally false and illogical.

He, however, said the voter turnout could have been more than 60 percent if BNP did not try to make the election questionable over the use of the EVM from beginning.

Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary, reminded the party leaders and workers that the party is their last resort. So, the grassroots leaders and workers should strengthen the party with all-out efforts.

Chaired by the district unit president Meraj Uddin Molla, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Central leader Nurul Islam Thandu, Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, Dr Monsur Rahman, MP, Advocate Adiba Anjum, MP, and former state minister Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder.

The information minister also addressed the extended meeting of the city unit of the party at the same venue in the afternoon as chief guest.
