DHAKA, – As moral erosion creates a sorry state in politics and individual’s life as well, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged Awami League workers to solidify their unity and integrity for upholding political morale.

“No other party will be able to face Awami League politically if we could cement our organizational unity,” said Hasan, joint general secretary of AL, while addressing the meeting of the party’s Rangpur divisional representatives at AL office in Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

He warned that a trend of moral erosion appeared to be gripping the political parties as well, but the Awami League workers must keep up their integrity strengthening their morality. “We should free the party from moral erosion,” he added.

The minister said the two mayoral candidates of Awami League in Dhaka City Corporation polls have won by bagging huge votes. “Success has come due to our organizational unity. And we are able to show our organizational strength in the polls,” he added.

About allegations that there were only AL activists outside the voting centers, Hasan said “This is a tradition of the country that all political parties set up camps outside the polling centers. Awami League also set up camps. And a number of party (AL) activists were present in the camps.”

“But BNP didn’t set up their camps in front of many poling centers. This shows their (BNP) organizational weakness,” he added.

Hasan said, “I think we should further gear up organizational strength in the greater interests of the party.”

The minister said the country’s politics is not free from moral erosion. “So we should develop our morality. The AL workers should realize the fact that politics is a vow,” said Hasan.

The minister said Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been in power for three consecutive terms by facing all crisis with her outstanding determination.

Unprecedented development has taken place in every sector of the country under her dynamic leadership, he added.

Hasan said world leaders, noble prize winners, World Bank chief, eminent economists of the world and the global community are praising the development spree of Bangladesh.

He said the countrymen are also extending their support to the party (AL) for carrying out huge development works for the benefits of the people. “But they (masses) don’t like rough attitude. We should project our development activities with modestly,” he added.

AL organizing secretaries Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, BM Mozammel Haque and SM Kamal Hossain, JS deputy speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia, Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, AL treasurer HN Ashiqur Rahman, MP, Health Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Deputy Office Secretary Sayeem Khan and AL Central Committee Member Advocate Safura Khatun, among others, were present with AL presidium member Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair.
