DHAKA – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP wants a ‘Jatiyatabadi’ Election Commission (EC) to win the next general polls.

“BNP wants a ‘Jatiyatabadi’ (pro-BNP) Election Commission. They want assurance of victory in the election…BNP is doing negative politics and not getting people’s response,” he told reporters after visiting the stage and the overall preparations of the mass reception to be accorded to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Suhrawardy Udyan tomorrow.

The reception will be arranged for attaining the eligibility to graduate to a developing nation, launching Bangabandhu Satellite-I, Sheikh Hasina’s achievement of Global Women’s Leadership Award from US-based NGO Global Summit of Women and her receiving D. Litt from Kazi Nazrul University of India.

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, AL Organizing Secretaries Anamul Haque Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, among others, accompanied the AL general secretary.

Quader said Awami League faced many odds in the political field in the past. The party is in power for last nine years and the country is now a role model of development before the world under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The AL is now strong in politics will come in power again,” he added.

“It is the right of all political parties to take part in the election. If BNP doesn’t want to come in election, then what can we do? We want an election where all parties would take part.”

The minister said the Election Commission will conduct the election and the polls will be held in a fair manner. The government will assist the commission during the polls and they will do routine works, he added.
