Shahadat Sumon, JU correspondent: The protesting teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have announced their next program again for not taking specific steps for alleged corruption against Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam.

On Thursday (January 2), the protesters made the disclosure at a press conference held at the common room of the university’s Teachers students Center (TSC).

Mahathir Mohammed, president of the Socialist Student Front, said, “We have given time till December 31 to investigate the alleged corruption against JU VC   without going into rigorous programs so that the normal environment of education will not be disrupted.”

We wanted the Vice Chancellor to investigate corruption and bring back a fair education environment in the university. Meanwhile, JU VC`s corruption proof as a booklet has been sent to the UGC and Ministry of Education, but no specific action has ever been taken. ”

Protesters also said that the vice-chancellor has already been accused of corruption in decorating her office, several inconsistencies in the construction of female halls under further development projects, illegally appointing teachers. If the problem is not resolved quickly through state intervention, the university will be in a deep crisis.

After the press conference, Professor Rayhan Rhyne, the co-ordinator of the movement, announced the next program of the movement. He said that a protest March and rally will be held on January 5 from Murad Chattar of the university as part of the VC removal movement and they vowed to continue the movement until the VC`s removal.
