DHAKA, -Dhaka Platoon captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was unfazed by his side’s humiliating nine-wicket defeat to Rajshahi Royals in their first game of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL), stating that there’s nothing to be worried for just one defeat.

The pre-tournament favourite Dhaka Platoon could put on just 134-9 after being sent to bat first in a wicket conducive to batting even though they are bolstered with two A+ category player and several reputed power-hitters of the world.

Rajshahi overhauled the target in just 18.2 overs with the loss of one wicket to produce the upset.

“No excuse [for defeat] but the tournament is big enough and there is enough time left,” Mashrafe said here today after the match.

‘We have done some mistakes, which should be rectified and we would get enough time to do this. We suffered some run out dismissals that also should get the attention.”

He continued: “Since we have another match tomorrow, there is not enough time left to think about those. For time being, we should rectify the mistakes that we have done today and that will be enough.”

Dhaka Platoon will take on Cumilla Warriors tomorrow at the same ground, a match that should be tougher for them given the latter demolished favourite Rangpur Rangers by 105 runs in their opening game.

Mashrafe himself did nothing worthy apart from his 10 ball-18 not out in the match that gave the bowlers something to defend. He remained wicket-less after conceding 18 runs in three overs.

It was Mashrafe’s first match since the disappointing World Cup mission in which he took just one wicket in eight matches.

The most successful captain of the country however said he needs three or four matches to get in his zone.

“I don’t think I should set up any target for BPL. What I can do, is to try my best for the team because it’s the main thing. The franchise spent much money to form a team, so that should get a reward from us,” he said.

“Like other players, I also want to perform my best. I won’t say that I didn’t have any hesitation, coming to play after long days. When a player remains away from the game, he obviously faces some problems in his first game. That is also applicable for me. Hopefully it will be all okay after three or four matches.”

Mashrafe said he has still some back problem but he is reluctant to give it any thought.

“It’s natural that the players will carry some niggles. In the past I overcame those niggles and hopefully it will be okay.”
