Formulate policy to curb air pollution: HC

DHAKA, – The High Court (HC) today ordered formation a high-powered committee led by the environment secretary to formulate policy for curbing air pollution in the capital.

The court asked for including chief executive officers of the two Dhaka city corporations, managing director of Dhaka Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (WASA), a representative of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), a representative from DESCO and, if necessary, an expert in that committee.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).

The court asked government to conduct mobile court to close down illegal brick kilns in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Munshiganj and Manikganj, within 15 days. The court has adjourned the hearing on the matter till January 5, 2020.
