‘Movement will continues instead of visible progress’

Shahadat Sumon, JU correspondent: Agitating Teachers and Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) continued their VC removal movement over graft allegation for the 10th consecutive days.

Following their demands, a seven membered protesting delegation sat on a discussion with education minister Dr. Dipu Moni on Sunday for the current deadlock at JU.

Prof Rayhan Rayne, spokesman of the platform “JU against corruption” said, “We have informed the Education minister about corruption, irregularities, incompetence, mismanagement and autocratic mentality of Prof. Farzana Islam. Minister has confirmed us that all issues will be presented to the Prime Minister.” He added.

“She has requested to withdraw the movement. However, the movement will not be withdrawn only on the request instead of any visible progress of VC removal.”

In this regard, the protestors under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ arranged a press conference at afternoon at `VC removal Mancha` installed in front of the old admin building and blocked both new and old administrative buildings from 9:00am to 4:00pm for the 10th consecutive days. Due to the strike, administrative activities were almost halted. Besides, classes and examinations of all faculties were remain suspended.

Professor Raihan said, “Our movement is tight position right now. In this case, we will never withdraw our regular program. As usual, there will be a comprehensive strike and blockade of administrative buildings. Our movement will continue till the Vice-Chancellor is removed.”

At the press conference, Mahathir Muhammad, president of the Socialist Student Front (Marxist) JUBranch, said, “Administration is trying to overturn the movement by putting the protestors in a confrontational position.” Going beyond our program, they locked the exam controller office. We condemn such act of the administration.”
