DHAKA, – Big shipment of onion is on the way and arrival of this would help to make the onion price stable soon, said commerce ministry.

In a media statement, the ministry said many importers are importing onion from Egypt and Turkey, and a big chunk of onion is expecting to arrive
in the country within 2/1 days.

In addition, the new local onion is expected to hit market in the third week of November which would also contribute to curb the price, added the
statement.

Besides, the ministry is holding meetings with the importers and traders regularly regarding onion import and its price. It also urged the traders and
importers to run business activities with honesty.

Earlier, on September 29 India announced to stop onion export. Later, Bangladesh started import onion from Myanmar as alternative option, but in
the meantime Myanmar also hiked priced that impacted the local market.

The commerce ministry requested the consumers not to be panicked assuring that onion price would come down quickly.
