Tapan Biswas retains Chess title in JPC sports carnival

DHAKA, – Tapan Biswas retains chess title in the annual sports competition as part of celebration on the occasion of 65th founding anniversary of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) held on Sunday at Club premises here.

Tapan Biswas defeated Shamsul Alam Setu in the final while Shahjahan Saju bagged the third spot beating Rajendra Chandra Dev Montu in the third place outing.

Chess legend Neaz Murshed, Sub-continent’s first Grandmaster was the chief guest at the opening ceremony.

JPC President Saiful Alam and General Secretary Farida Yasmin were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Kalyan Saha, Dilu Khondokar, Syed Mamun, Anwar uddin, Pobitra Kundo and other senior members were present at the opening ceremony.

The JPC arrange annual sports competition for the members, spouses and children to mark the founding anniversary in a befitting manner.

The two-day ‘Shishu Ananda Mela’ sports competition of the family members of the club concluded here yesterday.

The JPC’s celebration program also included to honor the senior members of the club, dinner and raffle draw.

Table tennis competition singles and doubles competition begins tomorrow at 11am with Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association Syed Shaheed Reza is expected to inaugurate the TT competition as chief guest.

Air Gun shooting competition will also begin at 3 pm tomorrow.

Spade Trump competition will be held on October 16-17 and Ludo for women members will be held on October 18 at 3 pm at press club premise and mini marathon will be held on October 20 at Bangabandhu National Stadium here.

All members will have to pay Taka 200 for collection of the dinner coupon and another Tk. 200 for their spouses scheduled to be held on October 20.
