Family planning for country’s overall development stressed

RAJSHAHI – Experts observed here that collective effort has become an urgent need to bring all the fertile couples under family planning services for the sake of happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

They also urged to create public awareness about aspects of planned family for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger besides to attain economic emancipation.

Divisional and district offices of the Department of Family Planning organised the discussion in the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute today in observance of the World Population Day-2018. ‘Family Planning is a Human Right’ was the main theme of the day.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Divisional Director of Health Dr Anisur Rahman addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively with divisional director of the Department of Family Planning Shafiqul Islam in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjit Kumar Shaha, Upazila Chairman Jakirul Islam and Union Parishad Chairman Bijon Kumar Sarker also spoke. In her welcome speech, deputy director of the department Dr Nasim Akhter gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and achievements.

The speakers laid emphasis on bringing all the fertile couples under the campaign programme through reaching the family planning message to them especially those who live in remote and underprivileged areas.

Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, the discussants underlined the need for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy using contraceptives.

“If we can control the unexpected pregnancies in the greater perspective, country’s population could be reduced to a tolerable rate easily,” said Nur- Ur-Rahman adding the field level workers should be more careful and attentive
to performing their respective duties.

He underscored the need for creating massive awareness to protect teenage girls from all social menaces, including early marriage. He also urged all concerned to come forward to build a beautiful and safe planet for the future
generation.

Dr Anisur Rahman urged all concerned to ensure the best use of all establishments set up at grassroots level to provide family planning, mother- child and reproductive health services in order to build a healthy nation.

Marking the day, different government and non-government institutions and individuals were awarded for their laudable contribution to the field.

Earlier, a huge rally was brought out from the Luxmipur crossing and that paraded some of the thoroughfares before being ended into the meeting venue.
