UK U-19 Tri-nation: Bangladesh, England match ends in a tie
DHAKA, – The match between Bangladesh Under-19 and their England counterpart in the Tri-nation tournament ended in a tie at Beckenham on Monday.
With this tie, England youth side prevented them from losing fourth straight match at the hands of Bangladeshi in this tournament.
The Junior Tigers now are the top of the table had already confirmed their place in the final of the tournament, collecting 10 points from seven games. Along with them, India, the other nation in the tournament also moved into the final with seven points from six games. Hosts England had just three points in seven matches.
However Bangladesh will play another match of the group phase and that is against India.
Being sent to bat first, the hosts England U19 team piled up 256-7 with opener Jordan Cox making the highest 122. Captain George Balderson was the other notable scorer with 56.
In pursuit of the target, Bangladesh youths suffered a mild top order collapse and were reduced to 61-3. Towhid Ridoy and Shahadat Hossain bailed the side out of the danger with an excellent 160-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the side closer to victory.
After the dismissal of Shahadat for 76, Bangladesh suffered another collapse and even though Towhid was there after making a century he couldn’t steer the side past victory.
Towhid was unbeaten on 104 off 131, hitting nine fours as Bangladesh was 256-6 as the match ended in a tie.
