6,343 tonnes VGF rice allocated for Rangpur on Eid-ul-Azha

RANGPUR,– The government has allocated 6,343 tonnes rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) program for over 4.22-lakh poor and distressed families to assist them in celebrating the upcoming holy Eid- ul-Azha festivity.

“The government has allocated 15 kg rice per card holder family under the special VGF programme this time,” said District Relief and Rehabilitation
Officer (DRRO) ATM Akhteruzzaman today.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution among four lakh 22 thousand and 915 poor and distressed families in all eight upazilas and three municipalities in the district.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are distributing the rice among
the listed VGF card holder poor and distressed families.

“Distribution of the allocated VGF rice among beneficiary families in all 77 unions and three municipalities in the district will be completed
before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity ensuring complete transparency and accountability,” the DRRO added.

Under the program, 402.97 tonnes of rice are being distributed among 26,865 families in Sadar, 1,336.51 tonnes among 89,101 families in
Mithapukur, 1,016.25 tonnes among 67,750 families in Pirganj and 820.54 tonnes among 54,703 families in Pirgachha upazilas.

Besides, 672.80 tonnes of VGF rice are being distributed among 44,854 families in Kawnia, 758.37 tonnes among 50,558 families in Gangachara, 834.36 tone among 55,624 families in Badarganj and 409.48 tonnes among 27,299 families in Taraganj upazilas.

In addition to this, 46.21 tonnes of VGF rice are being distributed among 3,081 poor and distressed families in Badarganj and 23.10 tonnes of
rice among 1,540 families each in Haragachh and Pirganj municipalities.

Talking to BSS today, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Sadar upazila said he has taken steps to timely complete distribution of
allocated 79 tonnes and five kg VGF rice among 5,267 card holder families with assistance of authorities concerned.

Chairman Iqbal Hossain of Haridebpur union in Sadar upazila said distribution of 88 tonnes and 320 kg allocated VGF rice in continuing among
5,888 card-holder beneficiary families of his union.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan said steps have been taken for ensuring complete transparency in the distribution process of the VGF rice
among card holder families timely to assist them in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
