Online media to be disciplined after registration: Hasan

DHAKA, – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the online media will be disciplined after completion of their registration process.

“The online media which are really able to work will be eligible for registration,” he said while briefing reporters after attending the Deputy Commissioners Conference here on the second day.

Dr Hasan said over 8,000 applicants have sought registration of their online media. “We will give registration to the online media after scrutiny. I hope discipline will come after the registration is given,” he added.

State Minister for Culture KM Khalid was present in the press briefing.

About the timeframe of giving registration, the minister said it will take some time as the number of applicants is over 8,000. But, the registration of those online media will be given soon which are able to work, he added.

The meeting also discussed the social media challenge, he informed. “This is a big challenge not only for Bangladesh, but also for the world, including Europe and North America,” he said.

About the demand of the DCs for constructing an information complex in every district, Dr Hasan said the government has already taken a project to construct 27 complexes. “I’ve already urged the DCs to select the place at their respective districts,” he said.

On the cable network, he asked the DCs to conduct the mobile courts strictly.

Replying to a question, Dr Hasan said the ICT act is for ensuring digital security for every person. “We discussed the act in the meeting so none can misuse it,” he said.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam presided over the meeting while Information Secretary Abdul Malek, acting Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Dr Md Abu Hena Mostafa, Bangladesh Television Director General SM Harun-or-Rashid and Bangladesh Betar Director General Naryan Chandra Shil, among others, were present in the meeting.
