Brazil marched into the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a steady display against Mexico in Samara, reports AP.
A methodical performance was given a Brazilian flourish by Neymar and Philippe Coutinho in the final third, and was the former who scored one and created the other in the 2-0 victory.
Mexico stayed in the game for the first hour but eventually wilted and will go home wondering what might have been had they been able to beat Sweden in their final group game and win Group F.
Paris St-Germain forward Neymar started the move for the opener with a backheel on the edge of the area, before sliding in at the back post to turn home Willian’s low cross.
Then, two minutes from time, he had a shot diverted into the path of Roberto Firmino, and the Liverpool striker converted from close range.
Brazil will face Belgium or Japan – who meet in Rostov-on-Don in the day’s second match (19:00 BST) – in their last-eight tie in Kazan on Friday.
