1st namaz-e-janaza of Ershad held

DHAKA,  – The first namaz-e-janaza of Leader of the opposition in the Parliament and Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad was held after Johr prayers at Dhaka Cantonment’s Central Mosque today.

Ershad’s brother and also JaPa’s Acting Chairman GM Quader, son Shad Ershad, JaPa secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Jatiya Party presidium members ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar, Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud MP, Kazi Firoz Rashid MP, Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu MP, Syed Abu Hossain Babla MP, Jatiya Party leaders as well as activists of different levels and people from all strata joined the janaza, according to a party press release.

Besides, the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army General Aziz Ahmed,former chief of staff of Bangladesh Army Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Chief of Air Staff along with current and former senior military officials also attended the janaza.

Moreover, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam and Workers’ President Party Rashed Khan Menon took part in the first namaz-e- janaza.

His second namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) at 10:30 am tomorrow. Following that, his body will be kept at the
party’s central office located in city’s Kakrail area from 12 noon to 3pm for all so that they could have the last glimpse at him.

Later, his body will be kept at the CMH mortuary following his third namaz- e-janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Asr prayers.

On Tuesday morning, Ershad’s body will be flown by helicopter to his ancestral home district Rangpur where his last namaz-e-janaza to be held at
10:30am on Eidgah ground. Later, his body will be brought back to Dhaka for burial at the Banani army graveyard after Johr prayers.

Ershad died this morning at CMH at the age of 89.
