Baby homes role vital to rehabilitate abandoned children

RAJSHAHI,   – Speakers at a seminar here today called for making the public sector baby homes more effective and need-oriented for proper rehabilitation of the abandoned and lost children.

They also put forward various recommendations for turning the baby homes friendly for children.

They said this at a daylong seminar on “Skill Development Training Programme: Present Status of Sarkari Shishu Paribar and its Problems and Prospects and Way Forward” here today.

Sarkari Shishu Paribar (Government Orphanage), Rajshahi organized the programme in association with Divisional and District Offices of Department of Social Services (DSS) at Hotel Warishan in Rajshahi city.

Government officials, civil society members and other stakeholders from all eight districts under Rajshahi division joined the seminar.

Assistant Director of Department of Social Services Bayazid Hossain Woaresy gave a presentation on country’s baby homes along with a set of recommendations to make the government run baby homes more effective and need-oriented.

Deputy Director of Department of Social Service Rashedul Kabir presided over the meeting while Divisional Director Shahidul Islam Khan and Deputy Director Hasina Momtaz and Member of National Social Welfare Council Mozammel Haque spoke among others.
