Stocks maintain downward trend

Stocks witnessed another bearish session today as all indices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) maintained downward trend for the second consecutive session.

Both the turnover and trade declined on the DSE. Turnover, a major indicator of the market, declined to Taka 639.42 crore from the Monday’s Taka 686.09 crore while trade volume came down to 13.36 crore shares from the Monday’s 16.35 crore shares, reports BSS.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, shed 22.51 points to close at 5411.28. Two other indices followed the same trend as DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 11.37 points to close at 1965.68 and DSE Shariah index lost 3.65 points to settle at 1259.84.

Out of 337 traded issues, 102 closed higher, 196 closed lower and 39 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Five top gainers on DSE were Popular Life Insurance, ITC, BD Autocars, RSRM Steel and Renwick JA. BD Finance, National Housing, Janata Insurance, Keya Cosmetics and Peoples Leasing were the top five losers.

In the port city, CSE also maintained a downward as the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – lost 142.03 points to finish at 16627.27.

The losers dominated the day’s trading as 56 issues closed higher, 165 lower and 21 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

CSE traded 2.05 crore shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 75.76 crore in turnover.
