Jobaer Alam pays courtesy call on Information Minister

TBT Report: Chairman, Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka Md. Jobaer Alam has paid a courtesy call on Information Minister Hasan Mahmud at the minister’s office on Tuesday.

During the visit Jobaer Alam emphasized the importance of oceanography and mentioned about various problems and possibilities regarding the proper use and development of the country’s ocean science and the ocean economy. Jobaer Alam said that “ocean literacy can raise awareness on the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of our ocean and its resources. Oil spills and plastic wastes on the ocean are the major marine ecosystem threats, so we need to raise awareness regarding the matter and give priority on ocean literacy.”

Jobaer Alam also invited Information Minister Hasan Mahmud to take a course of Oceanography Department of University of Dhaka as he completed his post-graduation in Environmental Science and obtained PhD degree in Environmental Chemistry. Information Minister Hasan Mahmud accepted the invitation. During the time, teachers of Oceanography Department Atikul Islam and Mahmud Hasan were also present at the occasion.

It is to be noted that Information Minister Hasan Mahmud completed his BSc Honours and Masters in Chemistry from Chittagong University (CU) in 1987 and 1989 respectively. The minister obtained his higher degree on international politics from Geneva in 1996. He did another post-graduation in Environmental Science from Breeze University of Brussels in Belgium in the same year. Hasan Mahmud obtained his PhD degree in Environmental Chemistry from Limburg University in the years of 2000-2001.
