DHAKA – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP is doing what the defeated opposition parties do and this trend will stop after a few days.

“The people of the country gave their mandate in favour of development and in favour of our leader’s honesty… This is magic of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as we got the landslide victory in the polls. This is the reality that the countrymen have faith in the politics, honesty, transparency, ability and skill of Sheikh Hasina,” he told the reporters.

Earlier, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Quader placed wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi-32 in the city.

Urging the elected lawmakers of Oikyafront to take oath, Quader said, “We have invited them (Oikyafront) from our party as well as from the government to take oath. They should show respect to the people’s verdict. BNP’s decision not to take oath is the repetition of its mistake. BNP made a mistake in 2014 by boycotting the general election.”

Regarding the formation of the new cabinet, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, “I think there will be a huge surprise for us. However, this (cabinet forming) is the prime minister’s decision. There is no scope of interference by others.”

He also expressed deep shock at the death of AL presidium member and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam.

Quader said Awami League lost a dedicated leader at the death of Ashraful Islam and it’s an irreparable loss for the party.
