Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament begins in Sadar upazila
GAIBANDHA – Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Gold Cup Football Tournament U-17 began at Sheikh Russel Mini Stadium at Tulshighat of Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon amid much festivity.
An inaugural ceremony was also held with Sadar UNO M. Shafiqur Rahman who is also the president of Upazila Sports Association (USA) in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest and additional Police Super B circle Moynul Haque was present at the event as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion DC Gautam Chandra Pal said all sorts of sports including football contribute to physical and mental development of the children.
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took initiatives to hold different sports for the children to help make them physically fit, the DC also said.
Later, the inaugural match was held between the team of Sahapara union and the team of Ballamjhar union.
In the match, Sahapara union defeated Ballamjhar union by 1-0 goal. A large number of people from all walks of life witnessed the match. A total of 13 teams from 13 unions of the upazilas are taking part in the tournament.
Today, two matches would be held there in the afternoon. At 2 pm, Boali union would face Badiakhali union while Kuptala union would contest with Kuptala union at 4 pm, sources said.
