JP picks candidates for B’baria-1, Gaibangha-1 by-polls

DHAKA : Jatiya Party on Saturday picked Rezwan Ahmed and Barrister Shamim Haidar Patwary as its candidates for the by-polls to Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) and Gaibangha-1 (Sundarganj) constituencies respectively, reports UNB.
They will vie in the by-election with party symbol ‘Plough’, said a press release signed by Press and Political Secretary of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.
The Election Commission has set the Brahmanbaria-1 and Gaibandha-1 parliamentary by-polls for March 13. February 14 is the last date for the aspirant candidates to submit their nomination forms to the returning officers.
The forms will be scrutinised on February 16 and candidates will have to withdraw nomination papers until February 23.
The two seats fell vacant following the deaths of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Brahmanbaria-1 MP Muhammed Sayedul Hoque and Gaibandha-1 MP Golam Mostafa.
Sayedul Hoque died on December 16 while Golam Mostafa died on December 19 from his injuries he suffered in a road accident a month earlier.
