BNP announces protest prog for another three days

DHAKA : BNP on Saturday announced another round of three-day countrywide programme from Monday to Wednesday to register the party’s protest against the jailing of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.
The programmes are also meant for mounting pressure on the government to release her immediately from jail.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
As part of the programmes, he said, the party followers will stage a human chain programme on Monday while an hour-long sit in on Tuesday and a hunger strike from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday.
Rizvi said their party’s district, thana, upzila and city units will observe the programmes at their convenient time and place, while the venues for staging the programmes in the capital will be announced later.
On Thursday last, a special court here convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Around an hour later, BNP called a two-day protest programme for Friday and Saturday.
BNP leaders and activists brought out processions in the capital on Friday and Saturday chanting slogans seeking Khaleda’s release, but police dispersed them minutes later.
