For his invaluable contributions in the field of economics and education and also for his outstanding contribution to social services while holding important posts in government and non-government organizations, Professor Rehman Sobhan has been awarded Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal 2016.
Chief Guest of the program Professor Emeritus, University of Dhaka Dr. Anisuzzaman handed over the medal to Professor Rehman Sobhan at a ceremony at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology’s (AUST) Dr. MH Khan Auditorium in the capital on 3 December 2017.
President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over the program while former NBR chairman and former Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid and Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow, Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) took part in the discussion.
DAM General Secretary Dr. S M Khalilur Rahman delivered the welcome address while Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) treasurer Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam gave a brief description about the life history of the awardee.
Professor Rehman Sobhan wrote a number of books, articles and essays on the economy which are internationally renowned. He has to his credit 27 books on economy, 15 research manuals and 140 journal publications on various topics.
Since 1986, DAM has been awarding the medal after noted educationist, social reformer, practitioner of Sufism, assistant director of education sector of undivided Bengal and founder of DAM, Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (R). So far, the medal has been awarded to 24 noted personalities for their outstanding contributions in different fields at the national level.
