Human-wildlife conflict in India: 1 human killed every day

b4980e1f421f4b10877dd167d5852a0b-780x512 (655 x 430)New Delhi – Indian government data shows that at least one person has been killed every day in conflict with a wild tiger or elephant for the past three years, reports AP/UNB.

The statistics released by the Environment Ministry count a total 1,144 people killed between April 2014 and May of this year.

The conflicts arise as India’s growing population, already at 1.3 billion people, pushes further into traditional wildlife habitat and competes with animals for land, food and other resources.

Activists say the conflict is one of the biggest challenges to conservation in India.
