HC orders IGP to assign PBI to locate Satkhira village doctor

DHAKA : The High Court (HC) yesterday ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) to give the responsibility to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to locate a village doctor from Satkhira, reports BSS.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order.
Mokhlesur Rahman Jony went missing on August 4, 2016, from Satkhira town. Jony’s wife Jesmin Nahar alleged that he was picked up by police. She on March 6 filed a habeas corpus, a writ requiring a person under arrest to be brought before a judge or into court, plea with the High Court.
The court subsequently ordered police to submit report in this regard and the law enforcement agency on two back to back reports rejected their involvement in the missing of Jony.
Later, the High Court ordered Satkhira Chief Judicial Magistrate to investigate the matter and submit a report. Satkhira Senior Judicial Magistrate Habibullah Mahmud carried out the probe and submitted a report to the High Court on June 29.
After holding hearing on the report, the High Court yesterday ordered the IGP to assign PBI to further investigate the matter.
