All UZs to get 100pc electricity by 2018: BREB chairman

DHAKA : The government has undertaken a plan to supply 100 percent electricity in 460 upazilas by December in 2018, said Chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) Major General Moin Uddin, reports BSS.
“The number of REB clients would be raised to two crore as 22 lakh more families would be brought under its coverage by June this year,” he told a Deputy General Mangers (DGMs) conference at the BREB headquarters in the capital on Saturday.
The theme of the conference was ‘Easy System, Rapid Connection’.
The REB chairman said as per the plan to bring all areas of the country under cent percent electricity coverage, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last month inaugurated 100 percent electrification at 10 upazilas. “Thirty more upazilas have been kept ready for cent percent electrification coverage and all upazilas will be brought under the project by 2018 in phases,” he said. Major General Moin said 16 projects are being implemented at a cost of Taka 36,912 crore, while seven more projects are on the pipeline, he said. Managing directors, directors, chief engineers, high officials and members of BREB were present in the conference.
