Khilgaon Rab checkpost ‘attack attempter’ gunned down

DHAKA : An unidentified miscreant was shot dead during his ‘attempt to attack’ a Rab checkpost in the city’s Khilgaon area early Saturday, reports UNB.
Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of legal and media wing of Rab headquarters, said the miscreant riding a motorcycle made the attempt to attack the checkpost of Rab-3 around 4:35am with bombs in his bag.
Seeing the attacker, the Rab members opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot. Two members of the elite force were injured as the ‘attacker’ hit them with his moving bike. ASM Shakhawat Hossain, operational officer of Rab-3, said they found a bag near the body having two hand bombs. Meanwhile, a bomb disposal unit reached the spot and defused the bombs.
The motorcycle recovered from the spot had no number plate. Later, it was handed over to Khilgaon Police Station, the official added.
The crime scene management unit of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the spot and collected DNA samples from the spot.
“We’ve collected DNA samples from the body as well as from the spot. Some 5-6 marks of bullet wounds were found in the body,” said Abdus Salam, senior assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of the crime scene management unit.
Khilgaon police took the body of the deceased to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Talking to reporters on completion of the autopsy on the body of the alleged attacker, Dr Sohel Mahmud, the chief of the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) of the hospital, said the miscreant was killed by bullets the marks of which were found in his body. Samples of blood, hair and flesh were collected from the body during the autopsy for DNA and pathological tests, Dr Sohel said.
Sub-inspector of Khilgaon Police Station Emadul Haque, who took the body to the DMCH morgue, told reporters that in the postmortem report it was mentioned that two bullet marks were found in the left shoulder while two on its left side of the chest, one on right side of the chest and one in the right foot. No case was filed in connection with the incident till filing of the report at 8:00 pm.
