Legal action against private universities which failed to follow govt rules : Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, legal actions including stopping the students admission will be taken against those private universities which couldn’t be successful, failed to run the universities as per law, ensure educational environment and fulfill the defined terms and conditions of the government, running the universities only for commercial purpose, which didn’t yet shifted academic activities in their own campuses and conducting academic activities more than one campus. He said these while addressing as presidential address of the 6th Convocation of Daffodil International University held on January 13, 2016 at Ashulia permanent Campus. Delegated by Md. Abdul Hamid, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh presided over the Convocation ceremony and conferred the degrees, a press release said.
Dr. G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor VIT University, Vellor, President-Education Promotion Society for India, New Delhi attended the convocation as the Convocation Speaker. The convocation was also addressed by Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees and Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahabubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of the university.
Terming the private universities as the thrust sector Education Minister said, at present the number of private universities as well as the number of students are more than public universities. Currently the number of private universities in the country is 95 and public universities 40. Around 1632 foreign students are studying in the private universities. The
Advancement of this prospect depends on our activities and success, he added.
In the 6th convocation a total 3,473 students were conferred upon graduation and post graduation degrees and among them 13 best result oriented graduates were awarded ‘Gold Medal’ in different categories.
The Chancellors Gold Medal winners are Parmita Rahman Ivy and Nusrat Zahan Happy of Business Administration Department, Shirajum Munira of Textile Engineering Department and Md. Imdadul Haque of Public Health Department
Since from the inception Daffodil International University awarded graduation to 16000 graduates.
