A two- day long Lalon Festival is starting today at Chheuria, Kushtia. The event is going to feature cultural performances, seminars, and discussion. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) is organizing the festival in association with Kushtia District Administration, District Shilpakala Academy and Lalon Academy. More than 50 singers from many parts of our country and 40 eminent singers will perform in this event. There will be seminars also on the preservation of and research on Lalon songs, which is newly included this year. Liakot Ali Lucky, the director general of BSA said, “UNESCO considers Baul songs as very elusive element of cultural heritage, and Fakir Lalon Shah is most notable bard in the sector. So, it is our duty to preserve the songs and in this regard; we have decided to organize two Lalon festivals from next year.”
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is also declared to establish a Lalon Institute at Kushtia, where people will be offered a one year diploma course.
