‘Sultan Utsab’ begins tomorrow in Narail

NARAIL,  – A three-day long ‘Sultan Utsab’ in celebration of the 92th birth anniversary of world renowned artist SM Sultan will start in front of Sultan Mancha on Narail Government Victoria College premises tomorrow afternoon, reports BSS.

The SM Sultan Shishu Charu O Karukala Foundation and the Bengal foundation are organising the Utsab. All preparations have been completed for holding of Utsab, said the SM Sultan Shishu Charu O Karukala Foundation president Sheikh Hanif.

Deputy Commissioner of Narail also SM Sultan Foundation’s president Helal Mahmud Sharif will attend the Utsab inauguration ceremony as the chief guest.

Professor Sumon Pal, Principal of Kolkata Art College will attend the concluding ceremony on Thursday, Hanif said.

Seminar on Sultan’s life and work and cultural programmes will be held as part of the Utsab at Sultan Mancha.

A total of 75 stalls with traditional textile and cottage industry products set up for sale on Sultan Mancha premises, said SM Sultan Shishu Charu O Karukala Foundation’s Member secretary artist Bimanesh Chandra Biswas.

His artworks were shown at Simla in India in 1946 and in Lahore and Karachi in 1948-49 and paintings were exhibited in New York, Boston, London and Michigan Universities in 1959.

Sultan, a legendary artist of Bangladesh won Ekushey Padak in 1982,
Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993. He was declared Man of Asia in 1982 by Cambridge University and Bangladesh government declared him as resident of artist in 1984.

Sultan died on 10 October, 1994, at Jessore Combined Military Hospital.
