AL government to remain beside flood victims: Maya

GAIBANDHA : Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday said the Awami League government would remain beside flood victims at all times and take steps possible for them to mitigate their sufferings, reports BSS.
The minister said this while addressing at a relief materials distribution function to flood affected people at Fulbari under Sadar upazila as the chief guest.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, secretary to the ministry Shah Kamal, director general Reaz Ahmed were present at the event as special guests while deputy commissioner M. Abdus Samad presided over the function. There is no scarcity of food in the country as a huge quantity of food is in stock of the food godowns of the government, Maya said.
The minister also allotted 100 tonnes of rice and cash Taka 10 lakh for the flood victims of the district freshly in addition to the sanction of about 1000 tonnes of rice and cash Taka 41 lakh for the flood affected people earlier.
Later, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya formally distributed relief packages to 500 flood victims of Boali and Badiakhali unions of Sadar upazila. Each of the packages contained 11 food items including rice, pulse, sugar, salt, oil and saline, said upazila project implementation officer Anisur Rahman.
Police super Ashraful Islam, district relief and rehabilitation officer Habibur Rahman, political leaders and public representatives were present on the occasion.
