Biometric devices ‘could be used mutually’ in SIM re-registration

DHAKA : Country’s mobile phone operators can use each other’s biometric devices with charge in re-registration of subscriber identity modules (SIMs), reports UNB.
The government has taken the decision in order to quickly complete the SIM registration process.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has recently sent a letter to the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry in this regard.
According to the letter, any mobile phone operator must share their biometric devices to other companies in exchange for 50 paisa for per transaction. Recording details of a subscriber, including NID card number, date of birth and fingerprint, will be counted as one transaction, it said.
The re-registration of SIMs through biometric system was launched at all the customer care centres of the country’s mobile phone operators on December 16.
