Primary teachers plan to rally for upgrade in pay scale

DHAKA : Primary school teachers on Tuesday called for teachers’ rallies at district- and division- levels from November 1 to December 15, and a grand rally in central Central Shaheed Minar on December 24 to press home their demand of upgrading their status to 11th grade in the 8th national pay scale, reports UNB.
Prathamik Sahakari Shikkhak Federation, an alliance of four organizations of primary teachers’ associations made the announcement at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club. Jahidur Rahman Biswas, president of Bangladesh Sarkari Prathamik Biddalay Shikkhak Samity, one of the alliance members, and other federation leaders Nasrin Sultana, Jasim Uddin and Shahinur Al Amin attended the occasion. Jahidur Rahman Biswas said some 3.5 lakh assistant primary teachers are being deprived as they are victims of salary discrimination and deprived of minimum salary although they are relentlessly working to educate the nation. The primary teachers’ leaders demanded elimination of the ‘disparity’ in the new pay scale by upgrading their status to 11th grade with a minimum salary of Tk 12, 500 in the 8th national pay scale, 100 percent departmental promotion to headmaster post instead of direct recruitment in head teacher post.
