Tree for keeping environmental balance: speakers

KHULNA:  Speakers here stressed the need for more tree plantation for keeping environmental balance maintaining bio-diversity.
They were addressing the inaugural ceremony of fortnightly Khulna Divisional tree plantation campaign and tree fair-2015, at Jatisangha Shishu Park in the city on Saturday, with the theme ‘Everybody should plant tree at hill, plain and coastal belt’, reports BSS.
The speakers also said Bangladesh is vulnerable to climate change and global warming. Jointly organized by Khulna District Administration, West Division of Sunderban and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the fair will continue from 6.00am to 10.00pm everyday.
Khulna divisional Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad addressed the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest.
Chaired by forest conservator of Khulna region Dr. Sunil Kumar Kundu, the programme was addressed by Khulna deputy commissioner (DC) Md. Mostofa Kamal, Director of Khulna Environment Department (DoE) Dr. Mallick Anwar Hossain, deputy director of DAE Md. Abdul Latif and president of Khulna Nursery Owners Association Md. Badrul Alam.
Khulna Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Zahir Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech. The chief guest said Tree plays vital role in maintaining environmental balance.
He said more over tree plays vital role in saving life and resources by decreasing the chances of natural calamities.
He urged everybody to plant more trees on their lands to make the ongoing tree plantation programme a success.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out in the city from Shahid Hadis Park that ended at the Jatisangha Park. A total of 42 stalls have been set up at the fair.
