Gearing up community policing to prevent crimes underscored

GAIBANDHA : Speakers at a function underscored the need for gearing up community policing activities by involving the common people to prevent all sorts of social crimes to ensure a peaceful society.
They came up with the comment while addressing a view sharing meeting on the prevention of sabotage, violence, and drug organized by district police administration and community policing forum on the police lines premises of the town on Friday afternoon, reports BSS.
Additional inspector general of police (AIGP) M. Mokhlesur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest and deputy inspector general of police of Rangpur range Humayun Kabir was present as the special guest while superintendent of police Ashraful Islam presided over the meeting.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by administrator of Zilla Parishad Advocate Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru, former MP M. Tofazzal Hossain, mayor of Gaibandha municipality Shamsul Alam, convener of district community policing forum M. Abdus Salam and journalist KM Rezaul Haque.
Community policing is a modern concept and philosophy that helps traditional police force to address the causes of crime, and fear of crime following the country’s constitution, the speakers said.
Based on the theme ‘Police is Public, Public is Police.’ community policing with the help of community people would identify the source of crimes in the society and assist police forces to prevent crimes and solve problems”, they also said.
AIGP Mokhlesur Rahman in his speeches put emphasis on bridging of the police and common people on mutual trust and confidence for further strengthening community policing activities to curb all sorts of social crimes in improving law and order situation.
He called upon the common people to come forward and work in joint and coordinated efforts with police through building mutual trust, partnership and information sharing for preventing social crimes to establish peace in every sector of the society.
