Nat’l Disaster Preparedness Day today

DHAKA : The “National Disaster Preparedness Day-2015” will be observed in the country today with a view to raising mass awareness about natural calamities, reports BSS.
Disaster Management Ministry and different socio-political organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes under the theme of “Let us know science based information and bring down losses of disaster” to mark the day. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
In the message, President Abdul Hamid expressed his belief that all ministries, departments, public and private organizations and civil society related to disaster management will remain active in building disaster resilient society through implementing disaster risk reduction and preparation and emergency response programmes under the theme of the day.
He termed the day’s theme as time befitting one and said the programmes taken marking the day will help increase awareness about men-made and natural disasters among the people.
“I believe the disaster casualties and damages can be kept to a tolerable level if all countrymen are aware and prepared to face calamities,” the President said.
