JS body for starting construction of Ruppur nuclear plant soon

DHAKA : The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Ministry today asked the ministry to take necessary measures for starting construction of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible, reports UNB.
The committee also suggested that if necessary, the ministry can involve an experienced organization for proper implementation of the project.
The recommendations were made at the committee’s 4th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Dr AFM Ruhul Haque in the chair.
Committee members M Amanullah, Ayean Uddin, Nurul Islam Milon and Hazera Khatun attended the meeting.
The members discussed in detail nuclear power generation and Ruppur nuclear power plant, a Parliamentary Secretariat press release said.
The government has set the target that 10 percent of the total power generation is to come from nuclear energy by 2021 to fulfil gradually increased demand for power.
The government has a plan to generate 2000 MW electricity from Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant by 2021, the release said.
