Digital center entrepreneurs’ conference tomorrow

DHAKA : The Digital Center Entrepreneurs Conference-2014 will be held on the national parade ground here on November 11 to mark the fourth founding anniversary of Union Digital Centers (UDCs), reports UNB.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of the entrepreneurs conference as the chief guest.
“Over 11,000 entrepreneurs of Union Digital Centers, pourasabha digital centers and city corporation digital centers will join the
Digital center entrepreneurs conference, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak told a press conference at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) yesterday.
Project Director of Access to Information(a2i) Programme of PMO Kabir Bin Anwar and officials and IT experts, among others, addressed the press conference.
Zunaid said the digital centers can help bring the government and Non-government information and services closer to the people eradicating the digital divide and create a long term impact by connecting every citizen with modern system of information flow. The common people are enjoying 60 different types of government and non-government services without any hassle and expenses, he added.
Kabir said after launching the digital centers, almost five crore services have already been given to the people through these centers, by which UDC entrepreneurs earned approximately Taka 140 crore.
“A total of 3773 UDCs are providing low cost computer training by using multimedia projectors. One lakh youths so far received the computer training,” he added.
The a2i programme sources said the noticeable services of UDC include land registration, life insurance, bill paying facilities of rural electric board, government forms, public examinations results, online university admissions, online birth-date registration, agriculture information and health care services.
At present, the number of UDCs throughout the country is 4547, they said adding the UDCs are gradually turning into service oriented social institutions by giving IT based services as well as solving different problems of rural people.
